Balancing Motherhood, Illness, and a Western Wear Business: Life at Double Bar S

Balancing Motherhood, Illness, and a Western Boutique

It’s been a while since I’ve sat down to write a blog. Between running Double Bar S Western Wear, wrangling twins in Pre-K, cheering on my high schoolers (a Senior and a Sophomore), and battling multiple chronic illnesses, life has been all hat, no slow horse. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that busy doesn’t stop the Western lifestyle—it fuels it.

The Realities of Running a Western Store

Running a boutique in West Texas isn’t always picture-perfect. Some days, I wake up ready to tackle inventory, style displays, and help shoppers find the perfect boots or hat. Other days, chronic illness wins, and I’ve had to keep the store closed.

That’s one of the hardest parts of being both a mompreneur and a business owner. I hate disappointing customers, but I also know so many of y’all understand that life isn’t always smooth. Owning a small Western wear store in Monahans means wearing every hat—mom, manager, cashier, cleaner, and buyer—while trying to keep health and family first.

Why I Keep Going

Even on the toughest days, I remind myself why I started Double Bar S Western Wear: to share authentic Western fashion with people who love this lifestyle as much as I do.

Western wear isn’t just clothing—it’s confidence. It’s the pair of Liberty Black boots that carry you through a long week. It’s the turquoise jewelry that makes you feel bold. It’s the Ironwood & Leather cologne that reminds you of dusty roads and hard work.

This business is about more than sales—it’s about building community and keeping the Western way of life alive.

Juggling Family and the Western Lifestyle

With five kids, including twins bouncing through Pre-K and teens in high school, every day is an adventure. I’ve learned that the Western lifestyle isn’t about slowing down; it’s about showing up, no matter how messy life feels.

From homework to late night laundry to early store openings, it all comes together with grit and determination—the same values our customers carry into their ranches, oilfield shifts, and rodeo weekends.

Thank You for Supporting Local

If you’ve shopped at Double Bar S Western Wear, followed along online, or shared a post, thank you. Small businesses don’t thrive without loyal communities, and I’m grateful every time someone chooses to shop local instead of heading to a big box.

Yes, there are days I’ve had to close. Yes, life has been overwhelming. But every sale, every encouraging word, every “I love this hat” moment keeps me pushing forward.

Life may be busy and unpredictable, but the Western lifestyle teaches us to stand tall, hold fast, and ride on. That’s exactly what I plan to keep doing with Double Bar S Western Wear.
